McCain-Feingold: Fear and Hatred of Blogs

Free Speech is About to Be Abolished...Soon!

or: You WILL Shut Up

If the McCain-Feingold legislation is extended to the internet, so as to regulate blogs, that will be the beginning of the End of America.

Our right of Free Speech will be gone. Poof! Never to return.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is on the verge of defining any mention ON A BLOG (not on a car bumper sticker?) of a political candidate: a "financial contribution" to that candidate.

Think:

You mention a candidate.

You link to his/her site.

You just made a "financial contribution" to the candidate.

What???

Insane?

Stupid?

Mind Control?

You betcha!

It's the end of Free Speech...in blogs, then everywhere else.

Why?

If it becomes a crime, in any kind of blog, to mention the name of a political candidate, or link to their web site...

...then, bloggers will stop saying anything good or bad about any candidate...

...just to avoid the legal and accounting procedures involved in tracking political "contributions."

Next Step on the Road to Ruin

After this, it may become unlawful to mention any religion, economic system, philosophy, diet, exercise program, anything that could "upset" someone, be seen as a "financial-equivalent endorsement", or conflict with "mainstream" opinion.

Watch.

What we have at this stage is a consideration of "regulating" internet content.

This has never happened before.

But it's going down, right in front of our eyes.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, nor am I the slightest bit interested in political parties, elections, or conventions. It's all just a silly circus of lies, emotional highs, and special interest influence.

Embarrassingly primitive and irrational, this political partisan nonsense.

But I believe bloggers should not be limited in political commentary or activism.

I said most of what I want to say on this issue in "Death of the Blogosphere."

Now, consider what these blog authors have to say...
